CS3 Scandal??

Looking on the Amazon.co.uk website for a legal copy of the CS3 Master Collection (looks brilliant and extra software could come in useful) found to cost £2,029.98. A lot? Definitely, Worth it? So far...

Having read a couple of reviews it appears it would be better to buy this from the Amazon.com store as it is
$2,342.49.

Thats just over half the price in converting to English Pounds Sterling but Amazon.co.uk sell it for just under the same value but in £££. So A lot? YES, Worth it? No from there...

Just a warning for anyone intending to buy the legal version.

You’d have to pay import tax to get it into the UK. This would probably raise the cost of it to the full UK price. A lot of people overlook this when they buy products from the states, usually to their ignorant bewilderment.

As of XE.com the $2,342.49 converts to being £1,142.90. Are they going to add on another £900 import tax?

I was making a point that it seems cheaper to buy it from the American store.

I doubt anyone on the course would buy it anyway, it's a bit of a pointless investment. It's not fully backwards compatible with CS2, meaning that bringing work from home to college would be a pain.

You'd also need a PC the size of Texas to get the most out of the new features - non-destructive filters don't sound like they would be 'highly optimised' to me.

My advice to anyone would be to stick with CS2. Even Photoshop 7 can still do the business...

I think it would be an after college purchase to be honest so there would be no worries about backwards compatibility.

Saying that I think one of the first years has got it and he's not having any problems with the backwards compatibility.

As for a state-sized PC my friend has got the entire suite running on his computer no problems.

Backward compatibility is possible with some applications of cs3.

For example, to use indesign documents for both version just export the files to Interchange format.

Does that help at all?

I have been told that the files can be converted to work on past versions so there's not really a problem.

Especially as we are nearly ending the course so it wouldn't matter anyway about converting back to past versions.

Thanks for the comment though Liam, I take it you have CS3 is it any good? I keep meaning to download the trial of Soundbooth. It sounds like a useful tool and I probably would make use of all the software in the Master Collection.

Yeah, its really good, I have the Design Premium version. Ive been reading about soundbooth and it seems you cant download it off adobe anymore.
Oh yeah, When you first started, i presume that steve taught you how to use PageMaker, do you think that its easer to use than InDesign or harder? Personally i think its alot easier.

InDesign is so much easier to use and I took the 'leap' later in the year.

In fact I 'plucked up the courage' to use it at the beginning of the second year. I would never go back to PageMaker even if I was given a free copy of the Master Collection of CS3!

As for Soundbooth a trial version can be downloaded (30 days I guess, it's currently at 10% atm).
